Laser mouse and optical mouse

Could anyone tell me what are the difference between Laser mouse and optical mouse?

Laser = optical, a red led under the mouse, but always call optical mouse only

optical mouse is to use light reflection on flat surface to detect the movement of the mouse. Old optical mouse uses infra red light, the problem is it only work when you put the mouse on a sensor board. Now, the laser mouse is also a kind of optical mouse but you don't need to put it on a senor board when you use it. Thus, laser mouse is the most common mouse using in the market.

May I ask a follow up question? There are different resolutions in laser mouses. The higher resolutions, the more expensive sell prices. But do we really need that high precision for common computer works? Thanks for your reponse.

Laser is not equal to Optical...

Laser mouse use invisible laser beam for tracking the mouse movements, while Optical use red light emitted by LED for tracking...

Laser mouse is a newer technology than Optical mouse, Laser mouse enable faster and more precise tracking.
