Besides Yahoo Dictionary, very often I prefer to use Webster Dictionary for American English.

I once saw a desktop with the e-version of the Oxford Advanced Learners'
nstalled. But that wasn't a CDROM. Does anyone have any idea what the programme is?

Is it possible to have COBUILD on one's desktop?

Mine (print) is an old version.

I think Wikipedia is worthy of mentioning though strictly speaking, it's not a dictionary.  Yet it's a very valuable free-content encyclopedia on the Internet, and it's still growing.  
What's more, it's multilingual.

Yes, COBUILD has its own CD-Rom and you can install it to your desktop.  But the problem is you need ot buy the CD-Rom first.
