By now HSBC may have dropped to almost the lowest possible price
so you may hold it for long to eat interest

Since some fund manager that hold the stock has pressing HSBC for change of business strategy, I don't know whether this include stopping it's high-interest policy or not, If such happens,  you should jump the ship without delay

But at present there still has no such sign

tang sing hing in Cable TV the other day quoted that only in Asia's business HSBC could worth $95
if this is true then it is quite unlikely that its price would go under 100

And there will be credit card loan (this could be troublesome too) and auto loan, corporate loan.. and the depressing US and UK business environment... and a bigger financial shockwave to come...
Asia's export-led countries would be affected probably in later of 2008 or early 2009 too, slower growth... I am not optimistic about reaching $140 this year indeed....

the subprime will not only spread to credit card loan (a certainty imo, the statistics is already showing increasing bad debt and delinquencies, American Express already reported declining earnings), it will spread to other sectors in the US, the *prime* mortage will likely to be in headlines this year too, the consumer spending sectors is tanking already... over 70% of US GDP...  Nasdaq will be tanking in 2008 as well, thats why i have invested in PSQ....  also s&p small cap SBB

No worry

Don't worry, just take it as deposit in bank, I think it'll still give no less than 4% interest per year.
Keep it for ten years for your son.  It will worth a fortune!!

It is *very likely* that the HSBC will go below $100 this year.... we all need to be a bit patient to wait for the unravelling events to hit the news headlines... IMO, it is not exaggerating to say that a meltdown or catastrophe of some sorts in the financial/banking system is waiting to happen... this is a systemic financial/banking crisis...
so it is risky to be invested in financials stocks (especially the US and UK)...

There is only one possible factor that HSBC could go up at an accelerated pace, that being *higher and higher inflation*  (just like the DOW for the last several years, and this applies to most stocks, not just HSBC)... if inflation is bad enough, HSBC might even reach $200... but then, a slice of bread could cost $15, $20 or more...

inflation here means monetary inflation in the sense of expansion of credit and money supply in a low interest rate environment... because we are importing the inflationary policy of the US Fed as we are pegged to the USD...

I have been shouting throughout the year of the pig for not buying HSBC
but now I think its low enough to buy it at $105
for long term low risk (and of course low return) investment

as a substitute for red book savings
if get at 105, I think for long term (3 years or above)
it may be better than RMB savings

limited 2008-2-8 19:50

I bought it at 135 tim,,,ok la, calm down
