與美軍入侵巴拿馬的戰爭、1991年波斯灣戰爭、99年空襲南斯拉夫，以及2003年入侵伊拉克等重要戰役。F-117唯一一次證實被擊落，是在1999年的南斯拉夫戰爭。

F-117使用的「隱形」反偵測技術，始於1970年代，其起角外形能大大減少戰機被敵方雷達偵測到的機會。F-117戰機現已漸漸被F-22猛禽戰機取代，美軍安排F-117退役，藉此騰出資金發展其他項目。F-117戰機共有59架，10架於2006年12月退役，之後再有27架退役，另有7架撞�牷]包括被擊落的一架）。F-117戰機最後會在下月飛往內華達州，在美軍空軍機場存放。

美國    空軍宣布，第一代隱形戰鬥機Ｆ－１１７Ａ型「夜鷹」將全部退役，以節省資金用於研製最新機型。

空軍周二在俄亥俄州賴特·帕特森基地舉行編隊飛行儀式，以紀念「夜鷹」戰鬥機退役。

據美國媒體報道，「夜鷹」戰鬥機是美國第一代隱形戰鬥機，迄今只生產了59架。這種機型第一次將可操作飛行技術和低空觀測技術合二為一。

夜鷹 戰鬥機在1989年美軍進攻巴拿馬時首次亮相，兩年後又被用於波斯灣戰爭攻擊巴格達市中心目標，之後參加過科索沃、阿富汗和伊拉克戰爭。

2006年，首批10架「夜鷹」戰鬥機退役，此後又有27架陸續停飛。空軍方面稱，淘汰「夜鷹」戰鬥機是為了節省資金，以研製最新一代Ｆ－２２「猛禽」隱形戰鬥機。

Well at least, they put the F-117 in service for some time, it is better than the Sergeant York AA tank or the OICW, in which the US military put a lot of $$$$$ investment but finally dropped the project.:burst:

I bet there are many under table deals with the contractors.

The entire stealth concept does not work.
Chinese army worked out how to shoot it down with old SAM-2 already.

The basic theory on how to detect a stealth plane is actually very simple.
Remember the anti-submarine MAD detector ?........ops, if I talk more I will get assasinated by CIA or PLA.......

In a real war, even as recent as Desert Storm,
Strike aircrafts like Tornato, F/A-18E or even F/A-111 delivered a lot more damage then this F-117A

It is basically the A-10 and Apachi killed off most of the T-72 of the Iraq Republic Guard.

F-117A is only a show case for the defense contractors to get more money into their pockets.

I thought F-117A were never aimed for conventional  bombing , it was a handy weapon at the early stage of the war , as a mean to destroy enemy radar stealthy, hence paralyzing enemy air defense.  

IMO, the decision to fad out the F/A 117 is largely a financial one. the huge advancement in tomahawk missile over the past ten years also overshadow the value of manned Stealth fighter.  Oh yes, I really think it is the tomahawk ....that fearsome weapon

Biggest fraud for Tomahawk (or called TLAM) or any GPS guided weapons, is the satellite.
GPS satellites can be knocked down (eg what China and US did recently as show off), or jammed, to make all GPS guided weapons totally useless.

to me, F-117 looks as good as F-14

No la,  F-117A was designed for precision bombing and infiltration attack.
Its main, and only, technology point is the stealth ability (which actually may not work).

F-14 is an air superiority fighter, main duty is for air-to-air.
Its main technology point is the radar and electronic network.
Its MEP (multi-element pulse) radar, part of the Pheonix system, can track incoming bombers from 200km away, track 36 targets and lock on engage 18 at any time, relay or obtain information from E-2C Hawkeye, and with all other F-14 CAP (combat air patrol) in the air with their own Pheonix system onboard forming a fleet defence network.  The F-14 electronic network is so good, a weapon officer, the one sitting at the back, can access other F-14 system and fire their weapon if needed.

F-14 air to air capability is still unmatched nowadays.  No matter how good the enemy fighter or bomber, the F-14 can always fire first and shoot you down from hundred km away, due to its superior radar and in-the-air electronic network.

Unlike what you see from Top Gun, F-14 commander is the one sitting at the back, using all the electronic systems to detect and engage enemy.  The pilot is only flying the plane and take charge only in dogfight, which F-14 is not good at.

F-117A retired due to budget.
F-14 retired due to air frame aging with no replacement.  US still cannot design an air frame large enough to house the rader and the electronic system but still agile to be a fighter.

seems like us is doing all the kill before the enemy(her main so called enemy are 3 th world countries) even have the chance to see them, with this advantage, they do not need a agile fighter.

This is current US military style.
Shoot and kill at a distance, so their guys wont end up in body bags like Vietnam.
Their lifes are too expensive, compare to the hardware.

shoot and kill at a distance won"t end up the American's famous : the soldiers rape and rob the civilians

70年代的設計已經這樣劃時代，現代的戰機生命週期好像越來越少

i like F14 more than F117

F-117曾係全球最強的戰機...
今日終於要退役了...

印象中這是國中時期最紅的隱形戰機

设计上有缺陷

不管是舊形或新形，現在美國的空軍根本都是金子堆出來的!

when it launch we say it is good but when F-22 comes out we said...pls give away........^^

研究最新一代Ｆ－２２「猛禽」隱形戰鬥機....雖然唔like 美國, 但都好期待...

該機應是對實驗隱形概念的初步機形本身有一個最大隱憂既飛行操控非常差  三型機翼 以及菱形避雷達表面等等設計 提早退役一點都不意外

科技日新月異
淘汰的速度已經越來越快了

主要係中國揾到偵察到F-117A既方法
並且在南斯拉夫實地幫南斯拉夫軍打落一架
所以美國後來炸咗中國註南斯拉夫大使館報復
仲記得呢單野嗎?

所以美國佬吾係因為"科技日新月異"去淘汰F-117A
如果係D B-52 同 B-1B 一早就要淘汰

美國將F-117A 及FB-111 退休後都幾頭痕
而家美國空軍係完全無中程入侵式轟炸機
