NO,
it seems we all focus on those things popular and perstigious.
Mount Mary, Hill of Grace, Run Rig, RR, 707, 389, RWT, Grange...even Wendouree.....
I read some Hugh Johnson and Oz Clark only... JH is generous but focus on AUssie wine, also, after 5 mark deduction, Parker is more reliable.

Of course we don't just rely on grading, only when we don't have first hand experience, grading is still a good pointer, at least it will reduce chances buying a bad wine with our hard-earned money. The practical problem is that we can't try and taste everything so that we can only trust those experienced drinker or so-called wine critics. Actually, I find myself enjoyed wines ranging from RP80-RP9x, sometimes a RP92 wine is not necessary better than RP85 wine, even Parker himself said the difference between RP96,97,98,99,100 is just something emotional at a given moment.

Brothers, that problem puzzled me for a while before, many people say that use a decanter can accelerate the maturity of a wine, some even claimed that 1 hr in the decanter just like 1 yr in the cellar, if that is the case why should we still cellar our wine? now I come to my own conclusion that even decanter can help to smooth out the tannic and help different components integrate better so that a new wine is more approachable in it's early stage, I still believe good wines need time and patient to allow those complex aroma and secondary flavor to develop, that can't be replaced by a decanter. Any insightful opinion about it?

tailawyau 2007-12-20 12:00
Bro Barton, your opinions and questions have actually been discussion topics for many people, including some significant wine critics. I intend to write something on this but just don’t have time, the following are some of my ideas, please see them and we may have a discussion
- Use of decanter was original for separating sediment from the wine. Speeding up the ageing process is the “by-product” of that.
- Ageing and maturing of wine involve two parts: oxidizing of the wine and integration of molecular ingredient in the wine. For the first part, decant can be useful as it increase the wine’s exposure to air, but not the second part as time (in terms of years) is required for that.
- Development in wine making techniques and change of the market situation have made bottle ageing not necessary any more, especially for the French wine after 1990’s.
- Personal preference and taste are always different for individuals. There is no fix rule which is better treatment process for the wine.
Just my views for sharing.
kenzo1111 2007-12-20 22:01
'integration of molecular ingredient in the wine.'
that is what i want to point out too....it is kind of big chemical breaking dwon into many simpler chemical molecules, that is the answer that young wine always direct, simple and juicy but older good wine always complex and full of layers tastes thro the time of oxidation after uncorking.
However, if we keen to open a young bottle and drink it young, use decanter! ........to oxidase the juice at that moment..
