小小tasting notes
Georges Blanc Cremant de Bourgogne NV
Heinrich Briebeler Zeltinger Himmelreich Auslese1969
Domaine Marcoux CDP 2000

HK market
Hi guys, i am currently located in Australia. I am planning to set up an e-tailing wine shop in HK, any comment on you guys? I can source some good wine from australia with a good price. Rockford winery, Greenock Creek, Torbreck are in my list. And also some odd bottles of cult wine can be sourced if requested. So you guys think it gonna work? My problem is that i would sell only Australia wine and couldn provide as much variety like other giant retailer.
** say 260 AUD gor RR...how many bottle can i sell in HK...
thanks for the comment
tailawyau 2008-10-22 10:49
hi artwine
personally i dont think that your idea would work since -
1. high end wines are not the most profit making portion in the wine industry
2. most consumers in HK prefers (or actually knows) expensive wines from France, Australian high end wines are not that popular in HK
3. the price you quoted is not really too attractive from my view
kenzo1111 2008-10-22 23:42
moreover, most high end wine lovers actually have own contact with the overseas wine merchants to get good price. such as us:lol :lol
artwine 2008-10-23 10:05
hi guys, would you mind pass me ur email add and i wil mail u guys my price list individually so that i can get more feedback. Really need your help as i am new to HK market. I have roughly compare the price with Altaya i think i can offered better price than them for some of the wine.
thanks heap for helping
dejavu2003 2008-10-25 01:00
Ah Tai,
Wanna pick up your Giaconda towards end of next week as my boss will be gone.
barton 2008-10-26 01:23
Hi Artwine, if I want to buy a high-end wine, I'll definitely not going to buy it from an unknown source even the price is cheaper, that's all I can say.
artwine 2008-10-26 21:12
i see....but how hk drinkers define an unknown source. Cause at this stage, we plan to set up a website to sell wine and also a small office in HK for wine pick up or any walk in purchase and also i will personally base in HK.
we directly deal with a few wineries from Australia and also plan to include some popular australia wine into our portfolio(not necesary high-end products) but with competative price.
We have bit of resource in Australia so still work out the best way to get into HK market that y i need help from HK drinkers.
**anyway nice to meet you all..
btw, my favoutite wine is Greenock Creek, Rockford Basket Press, Noon. I hardly drink old world wine and not a big fan of them. Not rich enough to try the top old world wine.hehe......
kenzo1111 2008-10-27 00:55
In my wine experience, I seldom select wine from regions, but good value.
Although i have not tried a bottle of good Chilean wine for a long time ( except Amaviva,:lol :lol )
Recently, my house wine is Pertaringa Scarecrow Sau Blanc from Adelaide.
Artwine ching, u are wellcome to share your wine experience here but try your best not to sell your products even so subtle. Thx.
If u did follow our thread, u should know which Aussie bottle is our favorite.
artwine 2008-10-27 08:00
haha...i didn really sell my product here subtlely. But will try to promote wine i think is good even they have agent in HK. I didn even mention the wineries that i represent, those i mention are my favourite.
I realise Deadarm seems to be one of the favourite and also wendouree, 707 and 407.
I am not a big fan of Deadarm. Tried a few old vintages which were good, but the new vintages seems nth fantastic.
The 2006 Greenock Creek just released and for me Seven Acre has it best vintages and is the best among all. RR shiraz good but not not going to hit RP98 to 100, RR cab not my cup of tea. Alices not as good as 2005 and Apricot Block hehe too much uncertainty, the wine still very very tight.
anyway, i am not really expert in wine. I start drinking 4 yrs ago. My australia wines knowledge is good but palate still not as expert.hehe

My wife went to a 私房菜 in Wyndham Street called 客家爺爺 and she said it's really good - as good as Yixin.
蔡瀾 gave it a good coverage at the Next Magazine a couple of months back. Maybe we can give this a try - at least price will be cheaper and this is what we need in this difficult time.

No problem! We can give it a try. I agree that we need to save more money for the long winter. What's the date for next gathering? May I suggest 12th or 14th Nov?

actually, I haven't been there myself. Don't know if everybody wants to take the risk. But I need to check on the corkage first.

what a crazy shop
i just called them and they charge $220/bottle now!:L
barton 2008-11-7 23:14
Really? that's so crazy! Then we can change the venue. Any other suggestion?
tailawyau 2008-11-7 23:34
my suggestions for consideration:
http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=13683
http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=1660
3. 北園
http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=14741
4. 名門 (LWT's place!)

I'd vote for 君怡閣 since i've never been there before.
And, is it okay if I'd bring along my visiting brother in law from YVR ??

LWT, just come with your brother in law, I don't think any one will object that. :)

i suppose dejavu and oncologist won't object to the choice of 君怡閣, right:lol
in that case, i will book the table and arrange the menu, they do have some signature dishes need pre-ordering
Bro LWT, no problem for sure, you are always welcome to bring along any nice guy like you
btw, i learn that kitzzz is on leave and in hk this week, maybe you can call him too
tailawyau 2008-11-10 11:09
i will send you all the menu once received
tailawyau 2008-11-10 16:18
