國際十大投行次按內傷起底
曠野
當下，在國際投資銀行的高級辦公室，與拼搶業務的核心部門同樣焦慮和忙碌的，是公關部門。
因為，圍繞各家投資銀行的負面傳言不絕於耳。
貝爾斯登(Bear Sterns)倒下後，就有評論稱「美林(Merrill Lynch)會是下一個次貸遇難者」；之後的4月份，雷曼(Lehman Brother)遭遇強悍的做空勢力，並被認為是「下一個貝爾斯登」。
年初，花旗(Citibank)在出售了一部分日本的業務之後，被指將賣掉其投資銀行的業務；近日，又有報道稱瑞銀或卸掉投資銀行部的重負，並由匯豐接手；6月30日，更有預測稱即將出爐的花旗二季度財報將增加89億美元的減計資產。
「我不知道次貸危機還會給我們帶來什麼，也不知道它是不是在今年會結束，而我每天和同行交流時都能聽到壞消息。」一位供職於摩根士丹利(Morgan Stanley，下稱「大摩」)的公關人員如此描述，「我不會建議公司就次貸問題發表任何言論，因為現在還不清楚究竟形勢如何，任何一家公司跳出來表示樂觀都很不明智，它有可能不久後就成為打自己耳光的笑柄。」
這番話不僅道出了投行從業人員的危機感，也說明了各家投行目前如履薄冰的情景。
按照來源，波士頓咨詢公司(Boston Consulting Group)將投資銀行的主營業務收入劃分為兩部分，一是來自固定收益和股票市場的交易，另一部分來自公司融資服務和咨詢。其一份研究報告對比了國際前十大投行2007年一季度和今年一季度的主營業務收入，去年為595億美元，而今年已驟降至-21億美元。
不置可否的「壞消息」一浪又一浪，曾經財大氣粗的投資銀行是否會真的再倒下？
SEC、美聯儲聯手
紐約時間6月25日，美國金融監管的左右手握到了一起。當天，美國證券交易委員會(SEC)和美聯儲(Fed)舉行了非公開的會談，主題是聯手進行投資銀行業的監管。
一直以來，美聯儲貼現窗口(discount window)是專為商業銀行應對流動性不足而開設的，而今年3月，華爾街第五大投行貝爾斯登從貼現窗口得到了貸款援助，美聯儲顯示了其對投資銀行的責任心。
不管法律界是否存在質疑，華爾街人士都認為美聯儲貼現窗口，自此將永久性地向投資銀行敞開。
作為投資銀行的直接監管者，SEC也沒有閒著。儘管未獲得法律上的授權，SEC主動挑起了重任：監督剩下的四大華爾街投行——高盛(Goldman Sachs)、大摩、美林和雷曼——的流動性及資本金充足水平。
如今，投資銀行的頂頭上司SEC和商業銀行的首腦美聯儲，一致同意「共享信息以加強必要的監管，確保投資銀行安全和穩定」，並希望將此共識上升到法規的層面。
從美聯儲的積極出手借出貸款，到樂意為SEC提供信息共享，都指向一個目標——確保華爾街的主力不再損兵折將。
在華爾街四大投行的安全有所保證的同時，以花旗為代表的混業經營型銀行也看到了信心和希望。
中金公司一位投行人士認為，由於混業經營銀行在次貸危機中損失慘重，且超過了傳統型的投資銀行，一度有猜測混業經營會被叫停，此次SEC和美聯儲重新劃分勢力範圍則給出了明確信號——華爾街商業銀行和投資銀行相互融合滲透的格局將不會被改變。
十投行傷殘分級
美國政府監管層的「處心積慮」，從一個側面反映了目前投資銀行正處於水深火熱之中。
國際上收入和資產規模佔據前十位的投資銀行分別是：高盛、大摩、美林、雷曼、貝爾斯登、摩根大通(JP Morgan Chase& Co)、花旗、瑞銀(UBS)、瑞信(Credit Suisse)和德意志銀行(Deutsche Bank)，其中七家為美國企業。
次貸危機中，前十大投行按照損失程度的不同，可分為輕傷、重傷和危重三個級別。
屬於危重級別的，除貝爾斯登已死亡之外，還有花旗、美林、雷曼及瑞銀，這幾家均由於巨額減記資產陷入了季報甚至年報虧損的困境。
瑞銀的元氣大傷有目共睹。瑞銀2007年年報披露了44億瑞士法郎的虧損，截至今年3月31日，其仍然持有156億美元的次貸相關資產。資產縮水同時，其投資銀行部的收入也在發生劇變——由2007年一季度的62億驟降至今年一季度的-166億瑞士法郎。
同樣截至今年3月31日，花旗和美林的次貸相關損失分別高達250億和211億美元。
不僅如此，花旗的資產負債表裡面還有291億美元次貸相關資產，這相當於其2007年純收入的1/3。美林則約有81億美元的資產很可能繼續減計，超過其2007年純收入的3/5。
危重傷員中，雷曼情況也不容樂觀。根據已公佈的今年二季度財報，3月1日到5月31日的三個月中，雷曼總資產額減少了超過1470億美元。此外，其賬面還留有249億美元的次貸相關資產，而其2007年純收入不足200億美元。
相比危重級別的損失慘重，高盛和大摩則幸運不少，次貸相關損失不超過各自2007年純收入的2%和30%。
相比這兩個輕傷員，雖然摩根大通、德意志銀行和瑞信蒙受的次貸損失尚未達到危重級別，但亦較為嚴重。
德意志銀行在今年3月底，還有約28億歐元的美國次級住房貸款市場的資產，其減記資產共計為27億歐元，兩項總和略低於其2007年61億歐元的收入。
瑞信的處境比其老對手瑞銀要優越很多，儘管次貸帶來了約40億瑞士法郎的損失，但是這個金額只不過是其2007年總收入的1/10。
而摩根大通目前雖然公佈有26億美元的次貸相關損失，其投資銀行部今年一季度收入為-8700萬美元，不過依靠商業銀行業務，一季度純收入依然達到了23億美元。
也就不難理解，為何各種不利的傳言全部圍繞著危重傷員——花旗、美林、雷曼及瑞銀。
根據2008年一季度財報，與2007年同期相比，高盛、大摩、美林、雷曼、貝爾斯登和摩根大通的毛利率無一例外呈現下降，同時，這六家投行今年一季度的收入同比減少了107%。
細剖投資銀行公司融資、交易佣金、資產管理、自營四大領域，目前，固定收益交易遭受的打擊最直接也最慘痛。今年一季度，前十大投行從固定收益市場獲取的佣金同比銳減172%，股票市場提供的佣金同比降幅略小為16%。
另一項競爭最激烈的業務，是為公司提供融資服務和咨詢並提取相應報酬，即IPO和並購等等。隨著美國經濟衰退，市場的活躍程度已大打折扣，較之2007年第四季度，今年一季度並購案的數量減少約四成，同時，前十大投行承接的IPO數量比前一季度下滑了六成。
據Dealogic的統計，今年第二季度(3月1日至5月31日)中，高盛以交易金額的絕對優勢繼續成為新通報和已完成的併購案雙料冠軍。
而在新通報的併購案中，雷曼跌出了交易金額前十。這家曾經的債券承銷霸主，在二季度債券承銷的排名中也未擠入前十名，僅在股票承銷中躋身第六。
被傳言纏身的花旗則在業務上更有競爭力，在新通報的和已完成的併購案、債券承銷及股票承銷四項排名中，均取得了前五名的好成績。美林同樣實力不俗，四張榜單的前十位都有其大名。瑞銀則在債券承銷商上失手，其餘三項均位列前十。
融資自救是否有道
融資是前十大投行中危重傷員自救的必要舉措。目前已公佈的融資行動中，花旗的總融資額已超過300億美元，瑞銀也通過各種方式募集資金超過300億歐元，雷曼和美林則融資分別接近和超過200億美元。
對傷痛未癒的四家投行來說，下半年的再融資不可避免，以目前情況分析，其資金來源與成功幾率亦或各有不同。
美林的資金需求可能因為握有Bloomberg和BlackRock兩張王牌稍顯輕鬆，因為這兩家股權變現相對容易。
花旗和瑞銀則因商業銀行業務一直名列前茅，備受主權財富基金的青睞。「投行最值錢的是人力資源，其餘都是空架子。而商業銀行的大量營業網點和客戶資源則是非常有價值的。」上述中金的投行人士分析。
顯然，雷曼在此番比試中又敗下陣來，因為其最後的「保險單」可能只能來自美聯儲貼現窗口。
不過，向貼現窗口求助並非佔盡便宜。一來當外界得知一家投行需要美聯儲的貸款，對其資產和經營狀況必將產生懷疑，進而可能造成市場恐慌反而引起流動性的緊張。
另一個不確定性是貼現窗口是否能隨時出手相助。
紐約時間6月27日，美國參議院銀行委員會(Senate Banking Committee)的負責人已經同時給SEC、美聯儲以及財政部致信表示將謹慎考慮SEC和美聯儲就投資銀行監管達成的合作協議，並將審議日程安排在2009年。
這就意味著，在法律還未明確規定美聯儲可以向投資銀行提供貸款援助之前，風險始終存在。

they might not take the form of bankruptcy, since these same bankers are the owner of the Fed (a private company), so they Fed will try to save them (also help them hiding the loss). for example, the Fed has been buying their worthless debts/loans (subprime, alt-a cdo, mbs etc) at *face value* (meaning not marked down to falling market price) with more freshly printed worthless dollars (a little exaggerated of course), so their books are not as bad as they should be, the end result is that it is the US taxpayers who fund the bailout of such bankers... thats why the us dollar is fast becoming worthless and credibility going downhill... thats why we have oil price and commodities shooting up (and so will gold/silver), not because of speculation, it's worthless dollar, apart from supply/demand
after all these, Citigroup is still insolvent, it is the zombification of the banking systems like the one happened in Japan, loaded with bad debts, and not letting them going bankrupt.. i wont touch them even though they are all hitting new lows in the DOW, especially C... Their financial situation aside, the US economies will be *really really really bad* in the coming few years at a minimum, and their revenue will sure take a big dive.. it is not exaggerating to say this is gonna be the worst situation since the US Great Depression... but if you are speculating for the short term, then it doesnt matter really
for big banks, bankruptcy will not be allowed by the Fed, but there could be mergers, radical downsizing, and stock price falling off the cliff, and there will be many mid/small size regional banks going bankrupt in the US...

我自己睇開 citi 同 aig.
citi 由 5x 跌到而家 18
aig 由 7x 跌到而家 2x
citi 上年每股次按撥備好似係 $4 左右. 當佢未撥晒, 未來幾年再撥 $1X, 但係佢個股價就已經跌左$30.
計盈利, 佢計埋撥備都未要蝕 (當然都無乜賺), 只要唔執笠, 始終會有撥完既一日, 雖然可能要等幾年, 但係就等於用 18 買左每年賺 4 既股票, 4倍 PE
我覺得只要量力而為, 唔好俾 margin 夾死, 而家真係博得過.

thanks sifu for the comment, i think you know better about these stocks than myself, but i think our difference stem from our different envisioning of the magnitude and nature of this crisis... and hence, i would generally stay away from any US financials with a ten foot pole...
ignoring further writedown/writeoff, it is assuming that they can maintain their revenue, which i have big big doubt ...no more money from securitization of crappy loan/debt, cdo, mbs, cds... they are laying off in thousands and sellings its piece off (Citigroup specifically) ... the past revenue/profit is being hugely inflated by an unprecedented credit bubble in the history of mankind, anyone who can breathe can get a loan in the US, this is no more..
the coming US economies will be really really bad - conservatively speaking, it is not surprising if there will be some kind of riots in the US...
and credit card default will be the next wave to watch carefully...

yes i agree is gonna be bad, but the question is " how bad ". to say that it would wipe out 2/3 of citibank and that it wont recover, i think is a bit too much.
