東亞銀行發聲明闢不穩謠言

東亞銀行 發表聲明稱，在網上有關其不穩的謠傳絕非事實，並已立即知會警方及金融管理局 。
東亞銀行聲明指出，注意到市場上若干關於其不穩定之惡意謠傳。東亞銀行管理層是於9月23 日下午稍後時段知悉該等謠言首次經電子方式散播。
聲明指，東亞銀行管理層謹此作出強烈聲明，有關謠言絕非真實而且全無任何事實根據。管理層並進一步確認東亞銀行之財政狀況穩健。
聲明指出，於今年6月30日，東亞銀行之綜合資產總額為港幣3,966億元，而資本充足比率則為14.6%，遠超於國際規定水平。
聲明稱，東亞銀行管理層對是次謠言的散播非常關注。在知悉此惡意謠言後，東亞銀行管理層已就此事立即知會警方及香港金融管理局 ，警方正就有關謠傳採取迅速和適當的跟進行動。
此外，東亞銀行另聲明其對雷曼兄弟 (Lehman Brothers) 及美國 國際集團 (AIG) 之貸款餘額分別為港幣4億2,280萬元及港幣4,990萬元。
東亞銀行稱，將會如常提供銀行服務，在9月24日八號颱風信號除下後其香港所有分行之一切業務繼續正常運作。

東亞銀行個 crisis management 就差，PR工作做得屎！
1) 昨日有傳言出現後，未有重視和跟進，作出聲明。
2) 今日記招會，又衹講述相關貸款情況，未有說明是否有投資上的損失
3) 同時，又沒有就存戶提款作出任何既安排保証，使存戶放心
結果就係：存戶繼續排隊，未有因記招的聲明而減少！

Unless our HK gov't can guarantee the deposit. It's no use for BEA to make any guarantee.
I think maybe the small investors fm Lehman Brothers' mini bonds spread the news to display their anger against the sales fm the banks and also our gov't.

I wonder why there are so many ppl believe this rumor .... BEA said that most of the ppl are small account, not big account, is that those small account ppl have less ability to analyse the thing ????
What will be the next? Will it follow the past HangSeng story ? If so, every other bank will suffer from the same rumor very soon ...

Yes I do believe BEA can handle the case.
I also believe a lot of parties will directly and/or indirectly support BEA in order to stabilize the economy, including HK govt and Chinese govt

當年 BCC事件，實際於80年代未期已出現問題。香港政府、銀行同業都早已知。當時 inter-bank borrowing，BCC 係拆唔到港紙。
我當年將公司既 loan portfolio 把 BCC 分幾年 fade out。:soldier:

I am starting to withdraw $ fm small banks and hope to concentrate altogether.
The final banks in my list are HSBC, HS, Bk of China, and ICBC.
I opened an account in HSBC last week, but I don't have the acct number until tomorrow. Not sure why it is so slow although my cheque is in front of me. Also, HSBC exposes itself into the US mortgage and UK mortgage risk. Not sure if this giant elephant will be pulled down if the mortgage is getting worse in the 2 big countries.
HS is good, but interest rate is too low and fee is too high.
Bk of China is good, but it is a big bank in HK, so I think (?) the interest rate is not attractive, and also Bk of China has more sub-prime mortgage in US.
So, finally I choose ICBC (Asia), which mother company is the biggest in China and mainly China gov't owned. It should be a safer company than Bk of China. Moreover, ICBC (Asia) is relatively a "small" bank in HK, so the interest rate is more attractive. I have 3.33% HKD fixed deposit rate for a month, and 6% for AUD. I can have foreign currency accts, stock and fund accounts, but it doesn't provide any gold acct.

In general, I think it is reasonably safe to place deposits with note issuing banks. HSBC is one of them.
Other than that, I would also believe Citibank is a good option. Its management is world class.
The only reason for me to choose BOC is because of my belief that the Chinese government would not let BOC have bank run whatsoever!

The worst thing of HSBC is it takes more than a week for me to open an account. What kind of service it is offering? At the time when I opened the acct, I mentioned I'll put large amt of money into the branch fm a PB. And I went to the branch for 2-3 times, and the lady just said the acct is not ready. It's 7 working days already. So, it will loose my business.
China gov't should not let the several gov't owned banks to collapse. Although I don't like the banks fm China, I prefer to put my assets into them to get shelter at least for the time-being.

I am not sure if you have referral when having your account applied.
I agree that AIG, Lehman Brothers are also world class company. Yet when you have experience with them, you may find out the differences in risk management in terms of credit risk assessment to customers, leverage on investment management... On the other hands, they are also in different category. Lehman Brothers is i-bank, AIG is in insurance. They are subject to different set of accounting/financial reporting standards, ordinances, compliance & commissions.

I have my personal acct in HSBC for 15+ years. The newly acct is just a joint acct.
I don't think we need any referral to open a bank acct. And it has no reason to open a new acct for 7 working days. It's the 2nd time. I used to add a RMB account in March in my existing acct, it also took me 5 working days to have the acct activated.

I see. I only have credit card a/c with HSBC as I've long found that it is too time consuming to operate bank accounts with the bank (that's why I cancelled my accounts 20 years ago.

單純，非資深投資者。鐘意人性味多 d 既族群
簿仔 d 錢多數係剩低既買餸錢 or 仔女既孝順錢。
