﹝轉貼﹞猶他州一夫多妻家庭兒童首度公開露面,促各界了解

路透鹽湖城電---逾12名一夫多妻家庭的子女周六在猶他州的一項集會遊行中，首度表達對其生活型態的看法，並呼籲各界加以了解。

18歲的瑪莉說：「我是一個大家庭中的第14個孩子，有好幾個媽媽...我的媽媽都很愛我。」15名年齡從10-20歲的男女僅用教名出席一項在鹽湖城鬧區的活動，以保護他們的家庭。在這項活動中，他們對200-300名支持一夫多妻制的群眾發表談話。

19歲的泰勒說：「我今天到這兒來，不是為了尋求對實踐我信仰的許可。我也沒必要這麼做。我到這兒來是為了一項原則辯護。」

這場周六集會的主辦者說，一夫多妻家庭擔心刑事訴訟與嘲笑，傳統上都不願曝光。在全美一夫多妻都是違法的，但研究人員估計，猶他州逾三萬人有一夫多妻之實。

一夫多妻制倡議團體主流之聲(Principal Voices)發言人葳兒德說：「長久以來，一夫多妻的生活型態廣受負面批評，我們認為，這是呈現事實另一面的時候了。」(完)

The Mormons unofficially do practise polygyny. This is a long story: not that long after the European immigrants started going to America, the East Coast became quite populated. Various colonies then encouraged the immigrants to move west. The Mormons were among the first adventurers cos the religion was losing popularity in the Continent. Unfortunately, many many people (esp men) dead on the journey owing to extreme coldness (women are in general more resistent to coldness). After they settled in the Mid-West, the religious leaders started to encourage polygyny (usually shared wives with brothers) so as to increase population and overall fertility. Few decades later, this had been forbidden by laws although it only goes underground.
