筆兄, 可惜小弟岳丈大人早於 1991 年尾去世, 他於 1971 年移民英國, 有幸地於 1989 年於 Kew Garden 與現任特首重遇而矣, 其他舊時同事少有聯絡. 小弟下一次回英國時, 定當前往 Public Record Office 看看有沒有與九龍仔相關的資科, 若有的話定富帶回讓各街坊緬懷一番. 由於小弟去年已返回倫敦兩次, 相常下次回去將會在明年初左右.

Croydon 乃 Surrey 東北部的大市鎮, 市內百貨林立, 繁盛情度比 Kingston 有過之而無不及. 衹不過歷史未有如 Kingston 和 Richmond 等悠久導至知名度未有如前兩者般, 較多為外國人認識而矣. 小弟居於倫敦時, 亦有前往 Croydon shopping, 回程時, 有時還會位於Mitcham 的龍鳳入貨呢.

先多謝芋兄傳來各式海鮮美食和 Billingsgate 漁市場的內觀和外貌. 魚市場外圍環境相信和 20多年前相比應該面目全非矣. 而市場內亦比從前整潔, 沒有再如從前般大部份貨品都是一盆盆或一盒盒放在地上的. 但有一樣境象是應該沒有大改變的就是黑頭髮的客人都不少. 從前我大慨一年才去兩三次因為要半夜三點半就要起身出門, 否則就買唔到好野架喇. 至於天氣方面, 六月尾至八月初乃倫敦全年天氣最好的時間, 到時芋兄就不會怪責英國陰沉的天氣了.

筆兄多謝你一言道釋小弟多年的困惑. 由於小弟誤記於 Mitcham 的是龍鳳, (這間和興約開於92, 93年間, 故小弟祇去過2,3 次左右), 故有一次我回倫敦的時候, 我的大舅帶我們去位於 Acton 的龍鳳飲茶時, 心裹暗想, 現在倫敦的雜貨業生意真百花齊放, 龍鳳在 Acton 和 Mitcham 相隔20, 30分鐘車程的地區都有分店, 生意一定很好喇.
現在想來, 由於我大舅從前也有在和興欏貨的, 亦因如此才知道 Mitcham 有間賣中國雜貨的地方. 在此之前, 除唐人街外, 要賣中國雜貨祇有Brentcross 的榮業行而矣.

華人移民英國近這二, 三十年起了很大的變化, 從六十年代的新界圍頭人, 到七, 八十年代多了公務員及留學生(如小弟岳丈及旺記老板勞叔等皆為公務員.), 但數目都增加不多. 及至90年初華僑人口才慢慢增多, 從90年代初的約二十萬人激增至現時全英約七十萬人, 原籍地亦由香港, 星馬等地改為中國大陸佔大多數(據說在2000年後增幅顯著. 而隨著早期的華僑家庭已經延展至笫二, 三代, 慢慢已被同化, 唐人街的重要性和關係已變得淡薄和稀疏了. 同時, 據說現時唐人街內, 說國語和福建話的人比講廣東話的還多, 講客家圍頭話的更是難得一見. 現時五月花, 泉章居和旺記等已經不是從前的五月花, 泉章居和旺記, 而當年一般留學生和小弟至愛的機仔舖更加早己銷聲匿跡呢.
