◎簡 介
作為一位深知保密價值的愛國者，愛德華·威爾森(馬特·達蒙飾)因童年的悲劇在心底根植入榮譽的情愫。1939年，正在耶魯大學就讀的熱情而敏感的威爾森被秘密社團“骷髏會”看中，將他招募為會員。這是一個與美國政界、商界和教育界密不可分的學生組織，3位美國總統以及多位聯邦大法官和大學校長都出自“骷髏會”。該組織之所以吸收威爾森，是因為他頭腦敏銳、履歷無暇，並且對國家非常忠誠。而在前方等待威爾森的，是即將開始的諜報生涯。
威爾森加入了二戰期間的戰略情報局(OSS)，也就是中央情報局的前身。這個決定不但改變了威爾森的人生，還將讓這個組織成為世界上最強大的情報部門。威爾森成為了情報局的核心成員，成為創建者。然而，長期的爾虞我詐讓他多疑的天性與日俱增，在冷戰的進程中，威爾森青年時期的最初理想已經被消磨的面目全非。與此同時，威爾森的種種方法已經成為標准行動程序，在與克格勃的對峙中發揮起重要作用。
職業慣性已經把威爾森推離了正常的生活軌道，他與妻子瑪格麗特(安吉麗娜·朱莉飾)之間的矛盾日益加深，兩人的婚姻名存實亡。為了國家，威爾森不但犧牲了個人理想，連家庭和親情也因他的蛻變而陷入絕境……
