幕後制作
超強明星陣容堪比《建國大業》
曾志偉本次在《72家租客》中親自出任總導演和監制，不僅邀請到了張學友、袁詠儀、陳慧琳等港台大腕復出加盟，林峰、黃宗澤、謝天華，林雪、鐘嘉欣、林家棟、陳百祥、廖碧兒、胡杏兒等TVB一線藝人也參與演出，集結了174位的演員的加盟，這也使得電影下載《72家租客》成為了近幾年港片演員陣容最強的影片之一，堪比港版《建國大業》。而觀眾最為熟悉的賀歲港片經典橋段--女性網眾星賀歲的鏡頭更是星光燦爛，現場聚齊了百余位明星。這場戲很簡單，只有三個動作：放禮花、張開手臂、歡呼，但由於人員眾多，前期的排練足足用了半個小時，現場一片混亂。曾志偉拿著喇叭上躥下跳，給演員調位置、指導動作，最後還要表演。而現場來了百個內地媒體，曾志偉還兼任了給媒體介紹情況、翻譯的任務，忙得不亦樂乎。張學友和袁詠儀是該片的主演，張學友在現場更是表現活躍，一副"大哥"的樣子，教身邊的林峰、黃宗澤等演員跳舞步。袁詠儀則忙著跟旁邊的演員記舞步，但總是學會第一步忘了第二步，並不停地問"接下來呢？"
邵氏復出向經典致敬
由邵逸夫一手創立的邵氏電影王國，自1987年停產後，22年來再沒以邵氏牌頭開拍電影。為慶祝邵氏成立半個世紀，2009年，無線動員全台小生花旦合演了這部以1973年由楚原執導的邵氏賣座電影《七十二家房客》作故事藍本的翻拍新片。影片設置了諸多向經典港片致敬和惡搞的橋段。比如曾志偉、張學友飾演的哈公、石堅年輕時的故事模仿了經典電影《72家房客》，更出動TVB花旦佘詩曼飾演包租婆壓榨各位租客。而曾志偉、張學友之間的爭客大戰，劇情設置很像許冠文的喜劇《雞同鴨講》。不過，最令人發笑的要數鐘嘉欣模仿《葉問》中的一幕：LAUGHING哥謝天華帶著小弟在街上欺負撿垃圾的老太婆，鐘嘉欣上前以一敵十，嚇得謝天華說："你老大是誰？"鐘嘉欣拿出一張《葉問》劇照，上有甄子丹的照片。謝天華問："葉問？"鐘嘉欣答道："錯，是甄子丹。"
而曾志偉在片中鼓勵手下員工積極推銷手機時的故事，明顯照抄了他在《無間道》中的橋段，說出了"一將功成萬骨枯"之類的台詞。劉美君則重現了她在《我不賣身，我賣子宮》的角色。
