It depends on your point of view. By the way, it is certain that Gao Yang is one of the best Chinese fiction writer during last 30 years.

Yep.
Gao is more inclined to the in and out of the detailed history.
More a scholar like.

如果比起內地浪費主義濫觴的歷史小說，我倒偏愛高陽細膩務實而不失傳神的筆法。為甚麼有人把高陽和金庸的小說相提並論呢？以我的理解，這種比較並不是來自題材，而是來自他們的小說讀者面廣，從中學生到老人家都喜歡看，而且從不同時期重讀他們小說，又會有一些新的看法和啟發。所以，有句話來形容這兩位歷史小說和武俠小說大家受歡迎的程度：有井水處金庸，有城鎮處高陽。

我則推薦高陽先生的慈禧全傳，六集書整個晚清史娓娓道來，
而且很多情節都源自清代的筆記，誠屬高陽嘔心瀝血之作。

I think Gao Yang is the best author in writing Ching historical fiction. You have prepared many days to read one book slowly and worth to re-read again and again. He knows so much about the old China. He
must be a great scholar in history too.
