ことし7月22∼24日に、AKB48史上最大の規模で行われた西武ドームでのライブ。3日間で9万人を動員したこのライブの模様を、NHKがオンエアする。NHK総合では凝縮して、NHK BSプレミアムではベストパフォーマンスをたっぷりと紹介する。

番組では、ライブパフォーマンスのほか、リハーサル風景や当日のバックステージの様子などのドキュメントも織り込んでAKB48の魅力を立体的に描く。

初日を終えて、秋元康総合プロデューサーからメンバー、スタッフへの怒涛のダメ出し、それに奮起した2日目の根性のリハーサル。熱中症で続々と倒れながらもステージに立ち続けるメンバーたち。総勢140人の衣装チェンジなど、見どころは満載だ。

AKB48のシングルヒット曲のほか、SKE48やNMB48などの姉妹グループをはじめ、ノースリーブス、渡り廊下走り隊、Not yetなどのユニットグループも登場。BSプレミアムの長時間版では、AKB48のシングル曲だけでも14曲、さらにSDN48、前田敦子や板野友美のソロ曲などすべて合わせると６０曲以上が紹介される予定だ。
