I beleive it doesn't work on 八達 card, but it should work alright if you put a $500 bank note to the microwave at your suggested timing period, this banknote could become doubled in value. It worths a trial. It is a proof to your IQ.

No, it is not true and doesn't work for an Octopus card.
But I tried before if u put a HK$500 into a microwave and turn on the max
