I remember when I was fresh, I need to send over 100 letters, but if you make a follow up once you send the letter. You may not need to send over 100 letters, unless you are picky of your first job.

Over 1,000 letters for better job. If you require a monthly salary below $5000, it is very easy to get the job.

I grad in 94, I sent around 15, not included Government job, got 5 interviews, got 3 jobs offers (1 government job). Impossible nowaday..

I think that is all depends on what you are looking for (plus the industry you are in).
I would look into email and make sure you have all the "key word" listed in your resume. Most of the big company use OCR to scan all incoming resume - if they are looking for some specific skill and your resume don't have it, the system will reject your resume and move on to the next one. :P

it depends what your doing. I did engineering so it was easy to get a job, sent about ~15 letters
