IE 9 RC 一大新功能就是"跟蹤保護"，該新的隱私功能提供了一種新的選擇參與機制來識別並阻止許多不必要的 Cookies、網路信標（Web Beacon）、廣告、跟蹤代碼等。跟蹤保護的清單可以共用至網路。
跟蹤保護是通過使用者創建網站清單來防止其他網站通過 Cookies 等方式來跟蹤使用者隱私。微軟希望技術愛好者能帶頭創建一些清單，並等到 IE9 正式版發佈之時分享給廣大使用者。微軟也曾承諾不會有預設清單，但現在 IE 9 RC 的樣本清單中包含了阻止 GoogleAnalytics 的項，不過該清單預設沒有啟用。
微軟第二項新的安全改進就是 ActiveX 控制項的阻止。Internet Explorer 9 RC 包含一項“ActiveX篩檢程式”選項，允許使用者在流覽時關閉 ActiveX 物件。不過，該功能很基礎，沒有提供針對每個網站的需啊向，只有開啟或關閉。

• Pinned Sites: With Pinned Sites, you can get to your favorite sitesdirectly from the Windows taskbar—without having to open InternetExplorer first.
• Tear-off tabs: Tear-off tabs make interacting with multiple sitesfast and intuitive. You can rearrange tabs within Internet Explorer9—just like you can rearrange icons in the taskbar in Windows 7—or youcan open any tab in a new browser window by dragging that tab to yourdesktop.
• Focused on your websites: Designed based on what you use most, thenavigational controls in Internet Explorer 9 are streamlined andsimplified. The back button is larger, the address bar and search boxare combined into one new address bar, and the multiple menus fromprevious versions of Internet Explorer are consolidated into a singlemenu.
• Cross-site scripting filter: Cross-site scripting attacks are aleading online threat. Their aim is to exploit vulnerabilities in thewebsites you visit. How do they work? By compromising legitimatewebsites with malicious content that can capture keystrokes and recordyour login information and password. If your login information andpassword is captured, your personal data could be compromised.
• Domain highlighting: One way to avoid deceptive websites is to knowthe address of the website you're intending to visit. With domainhighlighting, Internet Explorer 9 lets you see the true web address ata glance by highlighting the domain name in the address bar, making iteasier for you to identify the sites you visit.
