Record - Feb 14, 2007

Record - Feb 14, 2007

The last two weeks have been phenomenal to me personally.

After having record $ gain in a day/week, today, another record of most gain % in a day.

I bought 500K of this counter #310 on and around June 3, 2005 at 13.2c - 13.3c and during the 20 months, it did nothing - no dividend, no transaction, no nothing, ...  I had disposed so many stocks in the last two months and this is one of the few that I am keeping.  Reason - NAV now at 62c, 6 months profit over 6c per share.

It came back with a vengeance today.

I put offers early in the afternon at 22.8c (when it was traded at 20.8c), 24.8c (when traded at 22.8c), and 28.0c (when traded at 24.8c), and the orders didn't last for more than 30 seconds before taken.

Total sold today 160K.  Hopeful for better day tomorrow.  I would never have dreamed of a gain of over 100% in a day.  I am really thankful of this great run.

That is nice, and you deserve it.

It takes a lot a lot of patience for holding a share for 20 months and with no dividend and transaction as you said.

I had held other shares since 1993 and disposed them in 2006.   These two were with little dividend and until recently little transactions.

#133 - last lot sold Feb 27,2006
#49 - sold Nov 23, 2006.

I came across this counter by accident.  Then I started some research work and what prompted the buy was -

a.  small market cap - I recall they only have around 400 million shares issued, making the market cap only $50 million.   For a main board company with $50 million market cap?

b.  NAV - it was at around 50c.  They publish their NAV every month.

c.  Most importantly, they are not ripping off the small shareholders with fat directors fees.

Then, the interim result of 6c EPS, although mainly one-off items, reinforced my view to hold.

Undiscovered gem - Well, I don't know if it's too late, but personally to me, there's only one stock that matters - # 197.  I had 1.5 million shares last week, and since sold 600K.  But @ $1.25, it's only 10X PE for a PRC consumption stock, it's dirt cheap.

Yes, I know you have been recommending #197 for a long time. I did not buy.

Recently, I bought in #307 at $0.126 and sold this morning at $0.161 (just because it is a small cap). Not too bad la.

Today, I bought #570 at $0.42 (auction price) on recommendation found on http://www.etnet.com.hk and just sold at $0.52. Not bad for less than 1 hour's work!

That is very good.

I put in 7 figures in a stock 2 months ago (already sold out) but made a slightly more than 10,000 only. The bank fees however costed around 20,000.

Which stock and what bank fees??

3328 and brokerage fees & levy.

Actually making 10000 in 4 days is O.K. But, right after I spent more than 7000 on a hot lady that I even not known her much.

On #197, it has taken me a lot longer than 2 months.  I had once sold out completely at $1.48 when I thought it was fully valued, and then bought back again @ $1 for 50K shares about 9 months ago.  As it started to fall, I bought more.  Then it tumbled, I bought even more.  Then tumbled further, I frentically bought this counter by selling out most non-core portfolio members.  At one point, I even bought 10K shares @ 70c when my bank account had $8K left.  So the 1.5 million cost me on average of 76c.

Thank God I am not the type to stop loss, 'cause I only buy into something that I believe in, on fundamentals.  When fund houses reshuffle their portfolio, it would not affect the quality of the stock that I have chosen.  I must admit though, at one point when it hit 60c and below, my confidence was a little shaken.  Some friends who bought on my recommendation had doubt on my ability too.

I think you are a brave man if that 7 figures represents a good proportion of your investment/cash.  I never like something living on promises.  It is way too expensive today.

If you had used that 7 figures on IPO with margin, you would have done much better.

Yes, it would have been better if IPO intead.

I did that all the time, and always end up with tragedy the second time round.

Lesson to be learned - never have any sentimental value with a stock, regardless how much money it had made for you.

I had one stock, whcih in mid 1990's, I had literally no or very small initial investment, to become $1.3 million, then sold out half, although I knew it was terribly over-valued.  I should have sold out ALL.  At one point, I lost 95% of the value of that half.  If I had not done that, I could have bought back much much more in the last few years and made heaps more.

My #1 pick for the past 12 months -

#212 Nan Yang

NAV estimated to be $32 - $35 depending on the re-valuation
Low PE.

But it's difficult to accumulate.

This is my second biggest shareholder behind #197

Yes. For #212, any chance of privitization? Also, any associated companies also listed on HKEX?

Privatization is what I have hoped for.  This might be long shot, but without which, it is still a very good investment based on NAV and PE, I reckon.

I am not aware of any associated company of Nan Yang.  Its major shareholder is the Yung family.
