In fact, not only talking about Zeiss, personally, I would say the standard lens is the least useful. I think, less than 5% of the pictures I take now, are taken with standard lens.

Market Segment:
Who are their target customers?
What kind of phtos do they take?
Why would then want to buy a Zeiss lens for their Nikon camera?
ROI
How much time and cost will it be for them to come up with a zoom lens computation that is up to the standard to have the name Zeiss?
How much will their target customers willing to pay for a new Zeiss zoom lens vs what is already in the market that is satruated with both high-quality and value-for-money lens?
How much is it to take the existing proven cumputation and just make a standard lens?
