Your very first statement reveal that u have no idea about power/weight ratio. If the seat werent there to hold a person, why the hell would that be there in the first place. 1.5L would never be able to pull 8 people on hong kong road. Guess you had never seen a car break down and burn up due to overloading. Don't shout when you dont know, kid.
If 1.5L natural aspired engine can be able to pull 8 people, it should have been on the road long long time ago prior to your naive observation. No vehicles are allowed to be on the road if the gross weight it carries is way beyond its max capacity. Even with F-1 technology (which i doubt one could ever get from Honda 1.5L), 1.5L is shy to give 150hp (in Freed case, 118hp on flywheel) on wheel which is still not sufficient to pull 8 people, not unless they are dwarfs and run on flat land.
Take a look at the early model of Mazda Premacy 1.8L 133hp and Honda Stream 1.7L, 135hp , they were 7 seater with better performance than Freed and engine displacement already exceed 1.5L (the so called occasional MPV breed) yet they barely moves when fully occupied. Both of their specs exceeded and contradicted the Japan spec Freed in practicality on HK roads, nor they ever did challenge the winning steak of corolla's popularity. Either of these facts proved your statement invalid.
1.5L in a minivan sounds too good to be true, and the fans are naive to believe in.
