I copied this from her blog.  I would have said coarse words to such a shop owner but she was still very calm and polite.  Protect yourself and don't become another victim.

I went to Ya XXX Furniture to tailor-make two pieces of furniture.
Below are the design and the receipt.
On the receipt, the size is written down and the deadline is also written down -- "The end of this month or the start of next month."  This means our agreed deadline is about one month.



30 Dec, 2009
The furniture installation workers came to install pieces of wood into the two pieces of furniture.
After they finish the installation, the three pieces of internal glass doors were missing. (look at the above picture and you will know what I mean.)
The installation worker said that because the factory forget the glass doors in the designing phase, there is no space left for internal glass doors.  They said if I still want doors, they have to be external doors.  I can only choose if I want external doors with wooden frame or aluminum frame.  This means they cannot follow the original design.
Actually, this glass cupboard is to display my collection, I didn't want anything to block the view.  Internal glass doors without frames are the best.  Unfornatunately, I paid all the money ($6100) already and they are not going to give me back.  So I have to choose among the two bad choices.  I chose to have wooden frame.
Last time, when they were building another piece of furniture in my room,  the room was full of foam, wooden boards and all kinds of tools and I couldn't enter.  The installation men damaged my beam. (Look at the picture below.) They did not tell me at all!! I only noticed this when they left. I was sweeping the floor, I noticed some paint, white powder mixed with some wood shreds.  When I looked up, the beam was broken!!!  I called the furniture shop up and a lady said, "We don't know how to fix it, even if we fix it, it might look really ugly. You'd better find some else!!"  They didn't even say sorry to this...

(Look at the picture below.)I found someone else to repair the beam.  The right hand side is the outer part which I looked up to when I swept the floor.  It was repaired.  The left hand side is actually the top of the wardrobe.  I climbed up to see.  Part of the wardrobe was saw because it was too high.  Then, it was forced into the beam.  The repairman wasn't able to move the wardrobe to repair it.  All the dimensions were written on the receipt and it was two inches higher than what was written.  Still, the shop said that it was MY FAULT to give them the wrong dimension.  Excuse me,  no matter what the size is, any logical person will NOT break your beam to force a furniture in if it doesn't fit.  Should have just left it outside the beam!!!  The shop just doesn't shoulder any responsibility!! They didn't even apologize but push all the wrong to the consumer.

11 Feb 2010 ( 3 months after the issue of the receipt)
The furniture installation men came with wooden frame doors.  My cupboard is white and blue in colour, but when they opened the box, the found that the wooden frames are in BROWN.  The man immediately said, "Oops, wrong colour."  He immediately wrapped it up and said, "We will redo it."
31 Mar 2010  (almost 5 months after the issue of the receipt)
I waited and waited and I can't wait anymore.  I had been living with 2 cardboard paper boxes for 5 months just because I don't have this cupboard to put my things in!!  I emailed the boss of the shop and said, "It's been 5 months already, when will you finish your furniture?"
He replied, "The doors were ready for a long time!  We couldn't contact you by phone.  Please give me your phone number that I could contact you."
My phone is on 24 hours a day, and I didn't receive any missed called from this shop.  Moreover, he sent me the design of the wardrobe by email, and so he knows my email.  If he can't call me from Feb to Mar, why didn't he send me any email???  That's only his excuse of taking soooooo long.
3 April, 2010 (5 months after the issue of the receipt, 4 months later than the stated deadline)
The external doors came.  When the three doors were installed, one door was taller than the other two doors for around 2 inches.  It was super ugly!!  The top of the three doors should align horizontally.
The installation man said, "Oh no, wrong size!"
He called his boss and let me talk in the phone.  I told the boss, "At first, I wanted internal doors, because of your fault; I have to accept external doors.  Then, you made the wrong colour. Then you make the wrong size now.  I cannot accept it."
The boss yelled, "I HAVE NEVER SAID THAT IT WAS INTERNAL DOORS.  AND I PAID $200 EXTRA FOR MAKING THESE 3 NEW DOORS FOR YOU ALREADY.  DON'T TALK TO ME THAT WAY!"  (Excuse me, the design picture he sent me was internal doors, you can see it in picture 1, what kind of lies is that??)
I said, "You paid extra money to make new doors because you made it the wrong colour last time!  I am not the one to be blamed!! If this is your own cupboard, can you accept it??"
The boss said, "It can be closed, I can accept it."
I said, "Either you take this furniture away and give me back $4500, or you make new and correct doors for me!"
The boss said, "It is the same to make new ones, or I will give you back the old doors (the brown ones)!!"

1. It was said to finish the furniture in 1 month, but it wasn't finished after 5 months.
2. Because of their fault, the design was forced to change from internal to external doors.
3. The colour of the door frames was wrong.
4. The size of the doors was wrong.
5. They used numerous excuses to cover up their wrong, e.g. can't contact me by phone instead of they took too long to finish the product
6. They denied they promised to make internal doors at first (and it is even drawn on the design picture)!!!

I don't trust them anymore and so I found another shop to fix the cupboard. It was perfect in 3 days!!! Yes, 3 days!
It costed me $600 dollars.  I sent them the bill through the consumer council.  The consumer council sent them a letter asking them either to pay or to join the mediation done by a judge from the law court willingly.  The boss of the shop said "I'm unwilling to join if the judge is xx or yy."  (I thought he must have been complained many times that he knows which judges won't be nice to him.)  If he won't go to consumer council willing, the council can't do anything further.  They advice me to go to the law court to sue him!!


Then, the consumer council received a letter from the shop.  The shop refused to join the mediation. There were 3 pages of LIES told by the shop to the council.  At the end of the letter, there was a signature, but no name of the writer of the letter.  I translate the what the picture below says:

In this case, if I really bring his letter of lies to court, he can deny he wrote this.  No one knows who the writer was...  

There is no protection as a consumer in Macau .  Experienced dishonest shops know that Macau consumer council can't do anything aside from sending a letter.  You have to protect yourself.  Never pay until you are happy with your product.
