Haha, the chance is your Hong Kong Bank or Hang Seng Bank account is still maintained by Cobol .......... §@ªÌ: ming1202 ®É¶¡: 2007-7-7 11:20
Is that real? I can't believe! §@ªÌ: BenChek ®É¶¡: 2007-7-9 11:55
It is sure real.
HSBC and Hang Seng Bank are all using IBM mainframes as their core ledger systems, eg ES9000 S390 etc.
So they must be using Cobol, or PL/1 as the core programming language.
Front end applications, eg reporting are using Java now.
Transaction front ends, eg ATM machines and tellers, are using AIX based running applications on Java (mission critical components are on C/C++ for control purpose). Some of the tellers are still running 5251 devices on PS/2 (believe it or not!).
