What is the brand and model of your monitor?
You should have a driver CD comes with the monitor,
if not try to download the driver from the manufacturer's web site.

You definitely need a graphic card which can support 1440x900 resolution. Just installing the monitor driver won't help if your existing graphic card cannot output the higher resolution.
