ThinkPad is better is you don't mind it is more expensive. ThinkPad is very robust and reliable. The case coating is less prone to scratches, and easier to maintain (e.g. replacing Hard Disk). The keyboard touch feel is excellent. That is why a lot of large companies uses ThinkPad.

1G RAM should be quite adequate for Vista Business and normal daily use (i.e. MS Office, Internet, Email, playing music and video etc.)
