Adelaide is one of the smaller capital cities in Australia. Weather-wise, it is more extreme than Melbourne and Sydney, i.e. hot in summer (40+) and cold in winter (10-). Economy-wise, it's probably exhibited the least amount of fluctuation next to Hobart, in the past 5-yrs. Housing is still relatively affordable compare to other cities, but the job market is kind of limited. Depending on your profession, it can be difficult to find a position that matches what you've been doing in HK. So, you may have to be open-minded about what you want versus what's available.
As always, most of the new migrants mingle with the 'old timers' by going to church, via school activities (if you have kids) or joining ethnic associations. You should be able to build your circle of friends pretty quickly, as people in Adelaide are friendlier than in other States.
