I am quite impressed by the ability of modern camera to reduce noise in data for shots using high ISO settings. Some software can also perform quite amazing noise reduction tasks. However, noise reduction works best when you do not have a high level of dynamic range in your data. The following photo is taken at ISO 800 using Canon 40D with EF 100 USM Macro lens. I am quite satisfied with the result - with 100% view on the raw or TIFF or highest resolution setting for JPEG, the noise level is quite acceptable.
agrees very much. my D70, although one of the first of this new generation of cameras, when taking ISO1600 shots, don't have the traditional 1600 film shots grainy feel. So quite a few photos end up being a lot clearer than i had expected. Not always a good thing though, and the D300 being able to get to ISO 6400 leave me wondering how much PS work is necessary for that old fashion grainy feel in digital B&Ws. 作者: sam1980 時間: 2008-1-23 09:07

Oops - butter fingers hit the send before I finished the post.
Anyway, he was so impressed with the noise handling capaility of his D3 that he shot with ISO 1250 indoor without flash. That is impressive and also sort of back up my own hypothesis that we can get away with murder (i.e. using high ISO settingto get a more natural lighting tone for indoor and some night scenes). 作者: jia105 時間: 2008-1-28 10:40
