It depends on the size of your company - for a small company, MYOB or Quickbook will be sufficient to do job - they are pretty similar in terms of operation

Agree, and I reckon the format of reports are far more better in Quickbook than MYOB

Many years ago when I worked for a small company in Australia, I used a software called ACCPAC.  It was only the DOS version but it ran so fast.   I really like it.  It has GL, AR Ledger and AP ledger, and I could do computer check runs from the AP system.  Really slick.

But I don't know if they are available now.

Would u mind I got a question that does your company need to do the reconciliation between AR/AP sub-ledger and G/L control account? If yes, how to carry out?

With a good setup of charts of account by the software, concerning all the above, all our finanical dept. personnel have to do is simply imput a range of data they need, then press a enter key, a well generated report will be shown instantly.
But you won't imagine how much additional work other dept. need to carry out.

Techland is one of the very best I have used (http://www.techland.com.hk/big5/). Good for small to medium sizae business.

For large ERP systems, not much choice and expensive too. I have used SAP, Oracle, SUN, PeopleSoft, FlexAccounts etc. All very inflexible and not user friendly.

Please check if your company's operation flow and information format can fit the accounting software. You may need to change both accounting software reports and operation flow to fit ready made package regardless, ACCPAC, Peachtree, FLEX, QuickBook, etc.

For a small business, QuickBook or Peachtree standard can be cost efficient. FLEX is the most inflexible package.

However, if ready made software is used, please ensure you understand the backup and closing procedure. It is because ready made software has incorporated certain accounting control to make it difficult to modify closed entries.
