Good beef IS expensive.  I’d rather prefer a good ( juicy, tasty, tender ) piece of beef than say French haute cuisine.  BTW, it goes very well with a good Bordeaux Red.  I am salivating!!

Good on you but is their beef really top quality and value for money? Can you get same somewhere else?

For value, I would go for Time Sq Shooter’s 52 prime rib lunch set for something around $120-$140 (can’t remember exactly). The set includes a soup/salad and desert buffet, and the prime rib wasn’t too bad.

Another place which I remember having good prime rib value was San Francisco Steak House (with good Yorkshire pudding?) . But it was a long time ago, I visited before they moved away from Ocean Centre.

嘻嘻...香港囍Y牛肉的大路專門店都差不多畀頑童兄數遍了.......阿標喜歡懷舊,頑童兄提起當年海洋中心的 S F Steak Hse,是為食而無錢的阿標當年難得間中呼朋引類豪吃一頓牛肉的p二之選!猶記得阿標主菜必點二+安士 cut!哈哈,還會把一眾同座女士因怕肥切下來不吃的筋膏肥肉部份(曄,其實好正,女士們多數是叫 Sirloin 或 Rideye),義無反顧地全部幹掉,真痛快!不過跟頑童兄一樣,Steak Hse 遷離中心後,阿標試多了三兩次,因食物失準而沒有再幫襯了.....

我bf都話以前o係ocean果間San Francisco Steak House 真係唔錯,
不過我就未試過, 但係Time Sq Shooter’s 52我去食過一次, 就真係麻麻地, 果晚好似係d節日黎咖, 好多人, 但係果餐飯都食得幾唔開心, 出餐好似好趕, 而且塊prime rib 好乾柴皮咁呀, 我叫5成都係咁, 都真係幾失望.....自果次之後都無去食過!! 不過都成4-5年前lu!!
因為本身我唔好牛肉, 但係我睇到open-rice都有d唔好牛o既人去食過都話好, 所以想去Lawry’s一試!!

美心集團的 top-end restaurants  are quite respectable now.  

I quite like 中環歷山大廈北京樓, 與和記大廈的紫玉蘭.  (But other 北京樓 elsewhere are not so good, both in food quality and service.)

大會堂美心酒樓 (good value set dinners), Jardine House 潮江春也不錯.

I would love to hear your comments after your visit to Lawry's.  

For Prime Ribs, try ordering medium-rare. The risks of contacting germs are quite low. Unlike hamburger steaks where the chopped beef have a million tiny surfaces for germs to stick on, while a whole piece of steak has only two surfaces, and they are in contact with the heat/cooked the most.

自從歷山大廈間北京樓裝修左之後, 好水準好似差左...
但係我又食過一間o係cwb怡和街某大廈o既<老北京>真係唔錯咖,
幾有風味, 因為我bf佢媽咪係天津人, 她成日都話hk好難食翻一間有傳統北京風味o既餐館, 但我bf帶佢屋企人去食過之後, 好like, 話有以前個老工人o既水準喎, 唔知真唔真, 不過老北京都真係幾好食, 同有驚喜!!

紫玉蘭好多年前都同boss去食過, 但係都唔記得過次咩, 因為都無咩特別~

20-30 years ago, I used to order the biggest cut of steak available in a restaurant, and now, I have to stay up all night to digest a "California Cut" !!!

可以試下佢o既醬牛肉同酥 炸 小 黃 魚 (8條 配 家 常 餅 1份 )
不過佢真係正宗北京口味,所以同平時係香港食開既北京菜係有分別

Agreed -- Peter Luger is legendary, but you have to go to New York Brooklyn!!!  I have tried it once and it is excellent.

Other choices in NYC is Del Frisco's in midtown and Sparks (famous for dry-aged steak).

Made reservation for Lawry's once. End up didn't dine in. So stupid for them to have two seatings, once at 7 pm and the other at 9 pm. The first seating is too early for me as I work in Kowloon side. So chose the second seating. Arrived on time, but saw that there were over 5/6 table waiting as the people from the first seating haven't finished.

WHAT A STUPID IDEA!!!!!!!

As some people who reserved for the first seating didn't arrive on time, so they'd have started late; also that the time slot for enjoy a meal with starter, main course, dessert and wine could always take longer than two hours! I saw that there were 2 couples with black face already at the waiting lounge, didn't know how long they've been waiting. So I figured that I should rather leave than waiting until probably 10 pm, while their last order were at 11 pm.

So if you really want to go, make sure you reserve for the first seating!!!

....搭的士與地鐵我都試過,其實真係好易去,交通算很方便!為食的牛肉獸若果在紐約有鬆動曭漲菑v時間,不應錯過!此店價錢合理,不算超貴,地方裝修也頗平民化,不扮洁A提供切切實實的好食物!  記住要去就要提早訂^,早一個月左右最穩陣,不過......我試過快至訂到一日後的晚餐^,不過時間任佢畀,佢果次畀張五點幾燽^我!不過唔怕照殺,因為橫掂有時差,反正個胃都開工開到亂哂,對為食一族而言,食到件正牛扒最重要!

...唔係呀,我係香港人,未係果度長住過!衹不過近年多了機會去紐約。因為自己太為食,每次去之前都M埋儲埋好多食牉禤ヾA十多年前閱悉有這間 Peter luger 時即列它入我要試的食館榜上前位,故此十年前某次甫下機即趕到現場朝聖,當然即場無位失望而退啦,結果要訂下後期才開始了我以後每次必食的生涯!從此也鯃角F此店多次!
對於人氣旺店,我而家以經好習慣早早以長途電話預早訂^了,熟悉與陌生的店子皆如是,美洲的如是,曼谷的如是,國內北京上海的也如是,無謂臨時周張失望!

Sorry to hear your terrible experience there. It is so disappointed for you to go there but they offered no seat for dinner.

I had similar experience before at Spoon & Felix. But they do have a small area for drinking wine. So by the time you wait, you could seat there drink wine and chat w/ your friends before they offer you a table. I think this is a great idea as you not like wasting time waiting.

I consider "Prime Rib" and "Steak" are different, different in taste, texture... cannot and should not compare them side by side...

FELIX is so disappointing (but Verandah and Gaddi are good). Food quality is really bad and poor value too. Spoon is much better.

Peninsula has different atmosphere to cater for different needs, Lobby Lounge, Verandah, Felix, Chesa, Gaddi's.... and if you have deep pocket and know the right person, the China Clipper.   It's just different strokes for different folks.

I won't call Felix bad or crowded.  It's a Phiippe Starck designed joint, meant to be for the chic and stylish patrons.  Personally, I like them all.

I finally went to 老北京 and gave them a try. Yes, it was quite different from any other HK "北京" places I've been to.   It was lunch time on a Saturday (it wasn't busy), our table (out of total 4) was the only one Cantonese speaking !

It is quite good I think and I'll go back again.  Thank you 小丫環 for the recommendation.

At the same location. Once the new building is done, Hugo will move back to the premises.

食風味菜我會揀d多當地人去食o既餐廳,
果d先係o岩味(我覺得)
前幾日我bf又帶我去一間食韓國野,
間野full晒, 都係得我地一枱hk人(可能咁o岩啦)
不過真係食翻o係韓國食o既味道

ah...前日團年先同我bf又去食老北京, 我bf屋企人真係食得好開心,
因為佢媽咪話真係好食到o係北京o既味道!!

Usually, a lot of foreigners, eg. American Beijing Restaurant at Wan Chai, Peking Restaurant at Jordan etc.

Chris Ruth o既扒係切好一塊塊後 grill﹐即係用明火燒兩邊。 D 扒係grill之前每一塊會先用保鮮紙包住﹐係10度左右的溫度下放大約兩日﹐名為 aging﹐等D肉質變得較為鬆。Grill會先用猛火燒塊扒兩遍﹐等表明d肉有燒焦少少﹐封住裡面o既肉汁唔會外流。上碟前會加上唔同o既汁調味。

Lawry's serves o既係 prime rib﹐係成大塊肉放係一個托盤裡面﹐加入一 D 簡單o既配菜﹐如紅蘿蔔﹐洋蔥等﹐原味放入焗爐焗。焗完出爐後再逐塊切比人吃。通常塊肉兩邊會熟D﹐中間會生D。吃個時一般只會加鹽同黑椒﹐吃原味。

Creamed Spinach - at $75 + 10% as a side order, it's horribly expensive.  

Taste-wise, it's nothing to write home about.

At the Steak House, a typical meal costs you -

1 soda/water      $55
1 glass of wine  $175
1 Salad bar  $160
1 8 oz Mignon  $490
1 creamed spinach   $75
1 sauteed mushroom $75
1 coffee  $55
1 dessert $120

Total including 10% service charge, $1,325.50

For the kind of food you are getting, it sucks.  I feel bad even it's on expense account.
