Lise Cohen is taken to a special prisoner-of-war camp for female Jews, a camp run as a bordello to entertain the German officers and troops going in to battle. The camp is run with an iron fist by Commandant Starker and his minion Alma. Starker becomes frustrated when Lise demonstrates no fear, and devises cruel experiments to scare her, to no avail. Once she realizes her guilt is unfounded, Lise begins to play Starker’s game, but even though she begins living a better life, she doesn’t forget the atrocities she has seen and experienced.
This is one of those films that you feel dirty for watching and know you shouldn’t therefore watch, but I found myself oddly compelled to sit through ninety minutes of a film that exploits the Holocaust. Obviously, films like this shouldn’t have been made. The Hollywood audiences probably haven’t even heard of this film, and definitely wouldn’t want to see it, but it is quite a surprise to do so. The acting is quite good and the characters, although part of a sex/naziploitation flick, seem as though they are actually terrified of this twisted world they live in. The nudity is even minimum and many of the shocking scenes appear earlier as to entice the viewer. Also, the cinematography is actually quite arty. I wouldn’t have expected to see such skilled visuals in such a film.
