I support that the person posting anything should at least show some gesture about his/her feeling towards the news.  ( ie.  even a "Smilie"  is sufficient ).

If someone post a news thread, others can comment about it and let it grow or not responding to it and let it sink.

Therefore instead of limiting the post content,
I suggest limiting to one thread per news topic,
if there is already a thread in that news,
no new thread shall be create on the same news topic.

Yes.. the point is we have no objective rule about what is sufficient ?
In some cases, I think as small as a smilie is sufficient.
We can challenge the thread starter with questions and opinion if we want to elaborate or clarify some points.
