I was there last year with my lunch box and did not go to any SN or KOK. But even then, I was disappointed by the services provided in the 5 star hotel in SanYa.
Suggest that you go to Thailand instead -- everything is much better. If have to bring your local lunch box, you may have no choice but to go to Hainan. However, you can consider getting a visa for her to go to Bangkok. After all, the cost, including airfare and hotel, is almost the same.
