does anybody remember Sam? he's the guy that started Music Week & promoted Progressive Rock music in HK during the 70's... would appreciate any info on his whereabouts, what happened to him (after Music Week), what's he's up to etc...    thx

Thanks brother MingMing68!  I didn't know the paper lasted so long! I thought it went out of circulation in the early 80's (same time as I moved to Canada permanently)... do you have any more info on him? like, did he marry the Rock n Roll angel? where did he go to?    ...thx once again!

Brother Geezhew, I wasn’t trying to intrude into Sam & Angel’s privacy, just that they seemed like such a nice couple at that time, I was hoping they were still together!

Brother mingming68, it’s funny that you should mention’ looking all over’ to get a copy of Music Week. I used to do that too - to find the LP that Sam wrote about that week. As you may recall, they’re usually hard (or can’t) be found. Most of the time I had to ask my friends (studying abroad) to get it & send over. As a matter of fact, I got some thru Sam, yeah, the man himself!

I just wish that he has a web page or something so that we can chat with him. I mean he’s still in the music business, ie. a public figure, right?  

Anyway, while we’re on the subject, does anybody know what happened to Gerry Wan, ‘Taiwan Boy’, Peter Ng, Ram Band, Don Ashley, 四眼怪, DanDan Brothers, all these folks from the same era? Remember that they used to play in concerts that Sam organized?

Brother mingming68: I know what it’s like, I had to throw away all my 音樂一週 & 香港年青人週報 (Sam’s music column) & most of my 黑膠碟 when I move to Canada. I regret it very much now even though  I’ve replaced the 黑膠碟  with CDs & MP3 over the years, but the papers are gone forever!

Brother Geezhew: You’re right, I moved to Canada in 1982… currently contemplating retirement & move back to HK for a while… just to visit all these places that I grew up with before they tear everything down.

Brother Big Rock: Sam got me into your list (& more) musicians & artists too… one of the main reasons why I decided to leave HK was to be closer to my idols, as there was (I think still is) very little Rock n Roll here! …Guess what, I vaguely recall the contest you mentioned... I was there & wondering all that time who the hell would be listening to Rick Derringer, Johnny Winter (& brother Edgar) in HK at that time other than me (& perhaps Sam), let alone playing it? …You were good, by the way!

Sam never had a big following & I don’t think he wanted one anyway, but the few that he got are quite ‘faithful’ (like some of us here). If anybody is doing a who’s who in HK Music, Sam Jor has to be way up there!

Speaking of  崑 南 , I think there was another 信 箱 in the paper by 蔓 流 .  If memory serves me right, 崑 南  dealt with the day to day youth related issues &蔓 流  handled the tough ones, for some of us that had gone astray - ‘我 被 人 輪 大 米’ or ‘我  噚 晚 去 劈 友’ … sound familiar? Wonder what happened to these kids, assuming that it was true? Did they pull themselves out or sink deeper into the crime web? What about the 信 箱 owners?   …Posted the above in the Nostalgia Section but didn’t get a response. Perhaps you guys would recall & share with us?

我沒有放棄 ah, 堅持到現在... just like the Paul Simon song 'Still Crazy After All These Years'!

I need you brothers to help me one more time - I've booked a trip back to HK in mid Jan, just wondering where I can see live bands?  I only know the Fringe Clubs has live shows every now & then; Tom Lee holds a music carnival at TST harbour front on Sundays once a month & I'm told there's a club named X something in TST Ashley Road... are there others? bar district in Wanchai perhaps?
