Pretty close, her parents were second-generation Czech immigrants and he was born in Chicago. I see! Thanks!
It’d probably be that my boss Herr Novak in Vienna Hilton is a Czech as well; I always thought that he’s an Austrian. I now have sufficient reason to believe that he emigrated from former Czechoslovakia to Austria.
My dear brother av8s, your finding suddenly allows me to recall my memory on the European history for which I learnt from my secondary school nearly half a century ago.
There was once a powerful empire in the Eastern Europe called Austro-Hungarian Empire (奥匈大帝國) in more than a century ago. It’s territory was so vast that it covered Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia… and of course Austria and Hungary as well.
I’d put it like that; my boss Herr Novak should in fact not necessarily be called as an immigrant from Czechoslovakia. Like Kim Novak, his ancestor was of
Austro-Hungarian nationality, and Czechoslovakia and Austria were in fact one country before the empire dissolved in the early of the 20th Century.
Talking about history, I’d find it as an interesting and useful subject. I’d say that even those students taking science subjects should take history, including Chinese, European and the World history, as it’d broaden the horizons of them, no doubt.
