Hedge fund. It should give u absolute return no matter market is up or down.

For many traditional funds, they will only give u +ve return when market goes upward. In the bullish market, their return should be bigger than hedge fund, but in the bearish market, u may not be able to escape fast enough.

Nothing is 100% safe.

In a casino, if one can find a strategy that has 51% chance to win, then one is rich already in the long term.

But at least some (not all) hedge funds' aim is to give absolute return and has low co-relation with markets. For traditional funds, they don't even have this mechanism and aim. Investors just lose $ in the bearish market if they don't know (me too) how to jump off fm the plane b4 it crashes.

So for long long term investment which one will expect to cover several market's high tide and low tide and one expects he won't escape fast enough, I'd prefer hedge fund.

I know JF is providing some absolute return funds, in Korea and Jap (?). Another my favour is MAN AHL.

If buying fm IB, it may give u more choice, but the feeling to me they are speculate funds (in my knowlege, the fund hedge too much than required so become speculating).
