Hello, this is a very insightful discussion, I would like to share my opinion, apology in advance if this offened anyone.
The scope of my point is focus on Buddism and Christianity, I think both religions are trying to lead people to do the right deeds. It is the people in the religion that is the problem. However, since I had not live in Hong Kong for many years, this is based on my assumption.
I believe the reason more people are using Christianity as way to get their own benefits is because it is easier to be a Christian than a Buddist. As a poster mentioned before, there is no regulation in HK to prohibit people calling themselves Christian, sure, there is also nothing to prohibit people to call themselves buddist. If we look at the higher role in the religion, to be a buddist monk, you have to be vegaterian, shaved your head and cannot get married, you can easily tell he is a buddist. Whereas to be a Christian father, you do have to contribute to the church and take exams?(I heard about it, not sure) but it is harder to tell whether you deserve to be a father or not. Just ask yourself this question, what would you rather be if your purpose of being is just to get yourself more benefit rather than really believing in the religion?? a Buddist monk or Christian father? The choice is rather obvious here. The comitment in being a Christian Father is rather less than Buddist monk.
To be fair, I would say corrupted Fathers in Christianity is as bad as corrupted monk in Buddism, but we see less in corrupted Buddistin Hong Kong because it takes a lot more to sacrifies as Buddist monk. Do you guys agree?
Again, I have no bad intention towards both religions, I believe the problem are the corrupted people who is trying to use the religion for their own benefits, I beleive we should all respect each other and their religions.
